 Citroen custom wheels
Be careful ordering custom wheels for a Citroen DS or SM. They are 5 on 160mm (6.30"), stud centered. The early
DS wheels are 5" centered.
Later DS wheels are 5½" with the ½" to the outside.
SM wheels are 6" with the 1" mostly to the outside.
Tire clearance is tight. The DS had clearance for 180-15 tires, which were rather tall, about 80% aspect ratio, like pickup truck tires.
The SM had clearance for 205/70-15 XWX (actually more like 201-15) tires. I put 215/65-15 tires on one of mine - I had to flatten the lip of the rear wheel opening skirt to prevent scraping on turns. The 215s scraped at full lock. On the DS the lock angle can be reduced by screwing the end caps on the steering rack housing in enough to stop the scraping.
This is not possible on the SM as the steering travel stops are internal. The steering gear of the Automatique had thicker spacer bushings inside the rack cylinder for slightly less lock angle to accommodate the slightly forward centerline of the transaxle output shafts.
